STEP 11: Make Friends
Make friends and ask important questions. Be in communication with: Funding institution potential partners yourself - reflect on goals and the journey of the project. You may want to keep a journal. Bonus: Flip the funding! Consider ways to maximize the funding. Find ways for your funding to have multiple out comes. Your potential partners can be very helpful in this aspect. Create partnerships in targeted and unlikely places.
They are highly competitive and you have to shape your application to show how well you fit the goals and priorities if the granting institution.

ReplyDeleteI have applied and been accepted by one grant with Kentucky Foundation for Women. I learned they are time consuming to apply for and require acquiring a significant amount of documentation and both before and after the granting process. The ones I know of come from non-profits and arts councils. They can fund creative projects.
ReplyDeleteYou can use grants for personal projects ex. buying a car, Real Estate taxes, tuition, etc.
ReplyDeleteYou have a better chance getting most grants if you can demonstrate community impact or influence through your work.
ReplyDeleteI know a grant can be a financial form that enables one to get money, ie. school aid.

ReplyDeleteGrants can award money for all sorts of things--schooling, projects, art, charity--and can be highly competitive

ReplyDeletegrants can be given to a person from a family member who worked/works in a company
ReplyDeleteYou have to secure smaller grants before you can secure larger/more grants. You can (should?) apply for grants to fund the final dissertation years of your graduate program. Having a record of securing grants can make you more competitive on the academic job market.
ReplyDeleteI know that some grants are based off of your expected family contribution, and how much income you make.
